YOUTH
It is our mission at FPCQ to lead the youth of our church and the Quincy area into a loving relationship with Christ and others. We offer a warm, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere where our youth feel loved and at home. If you don’t have a youth program you are involved in, join us!_
Equip youth to have a firm foundation:
• Study scripture and learn what Jesus would have us do, “the golden rule”
• Welcome others and be kind
• Have a safe space – a home
Youth & Fellowship
Youth and Fellowship is for 6th through 12th grade and meet at the church on Sunday evenings from 5:00 to 7:15 p.m. There is time for recreation, dinner, and Bible study.
The group travels throughout the year to various Presbyterian-sponsored events such as Rock the Universe, the Montreat Youth Conference, Great Escape, and to mission trips and various other retreats. The group also has an annual ski trip in December.
Route 456
Route 456 is for 4th through 6th grade. Participants go on monthly field trips to discover God’s creation and the world around us. This group does team building through activities such as canoeing, rock wall climbing, painting, and fishing.
Music
First Presbyterian Church of Quincy includes the church youth and children’s choirs in our youth services, including special music by our Praise Band. Through a variety of musical expressions, we seek to glorify God by pursuing true excellence in all we do.
Terrific Tuesday
Terrific Tuesday is for children ages 4 through the 3rd grade. They meet on Tuesday afternoons from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the church. Time is spent on Bible study, crafts, games, music, and refreshments. Each class takes two field trips a year to the Gadsden Arts Center to view art exhibits and participate in art activities. The children occasionally sing as part of our Sunday worship service.
Side Yard Soccer
Side Yard Soccer is one of First Presbyterian Church Quincy’s fastest growing ministries. Participation in the soccer league is both fun and rewarding. It is volunteer-based, relying on help from our youth, parents, members and the community. The spirit of the league is to teach children the basics of soccer, and to encourage teamwork and fellowship. Any child ages 3 to 9 years is welcome to play. Practice and games are held at the soccer field on the north side of the church from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon each Saturday during the season (late September through early November).
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is a full week of God’s love, shared with children ages 3 through those finishing the 5th grade. It is normally held the first full week in June and has theme-based activities, art, stories and snacks. It is headed by our Director of Christian Education, Lisa Wilder, and staffed with volunteers from the youth, parents and other church members.
Dogwood Acres Camp
Dogwood Acres Retreat and Summer Camp is a year-round outdoor ministry centered on 457 beautiful acres in the middle of the Florida Panhandle. The camp is owned by our Presbytery of Florida and supported in part by many entities including First Presbyterian Church Quincy. The ministry mission of Dogwood Acres is to serve Jesus Christ, nurture the Christian faith, encourage faithful discipleship, and open doors to opportunities for fellowship, education and spiritual growth.
In June and July Dogwood Acres hosts a Summer Camp program for children and youth, 2nd through 12th grade. Throughout the year the camp also provides an ideal setting for group gatherings for all ages in a part of God’s creation that is a healthy alternative to our (and our children’s) often hectic lives.
Boy Scouts
First Presbyterian Church Quincy supports Cub Scout Pack 201 and Boy Scout Troop 201. They are the fastest growing Boy Scout organizations in the area. Cub Scouts range in age from first through fifth grades. Sixth graders move up to become Boy Scouts. Many important lessons are learned as the boys work on merit badges and participate in activities such as hiking and camping. Boy Scout Troop meetings are held on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Scout Hut (located at the corner of N. Monroe and W. Franklin streets). Cub Scout Dens meet one or two times a month at the Scout Hut, while the Pack meets once a month in the Fellowship Hall of our church.
